ROK, DPRK premiers stress cooperation

The DPRK Prime Minister Kim Yong-il and his ROK counterpart Han Duck-soo have emphasized peace and economic cooperation on the Korean peninsula during their meeting in Seoul.

In Seoul, the stress is on peace and economic cooperation on the Korean peninsula.

Kim Yong-il, DPRK Premier, said, "Peace and prosperity are our race's main theme nowadays. The declaration for the economic development of North and South Korea and for the peaceful prosperity is our mutual milestone to implement and the indicator for the practice."

To that end, the ROK Prime Minister Han Duck-soo says the two sides need a proper system to ease restrictions.

The system will focus on the "three C's" -- Conveyance, Communication and Customs.

Han Duck-soo, ROK Prime Minister, said, "Now North and South Korea should expand our economic cooperation to develop into a community. For this purpose, we should complete our system as quickly as possible such as communication, conveyance and customs."

This is the first inter-Korean prime ministers meeting in 15 years.

During their three days in Seoul, the two leaders will try to iron out the details of an aid package to develop a DPRK port and its shipyards, as well as antiquated roads and railways.

Talks will also focus on developing a joint fishing zone off the west coast in disputed waters and pushing for a peace deal for the peninsula.
