Iran's foreign ministry has dismissed US allegations that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards support anti-US insurgents in Iraq.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that his country has played no role in the killing of US troops in Iraq.

Speaking of the new US sanctions, which cut off key Iranian military and banking institutions from the US financial system, Mottaki said the action aims to cover up the continuing failure of US policy in the Mideast. He also warned the US of the consequences of imposing unilateral penalties.
