Sudanese refugees deteriorate Chad´s security situation

Source: CCTV.com | 12-13-2006 09:42

More than a hundred thousand refugees from the Sudanese province of Darfur have fled to neighboring Chad - which is also in turmoil. The United Nations has warned that the fragile life-line for refugees in eastern Chad is stretching ever thinner as the security situation deteriorates.

In Chad's second largest town, Abeche, and in the city of Goz Beida, the misery of the refugees from Darfur and displaced Chadians, is apparent. Fighting between the government troops and rebel groups has forced humanitarian agencies to reduce staff to the bare minimum. The government is trying to crush rebels, while ethnic Arab and African Chadians are fighting each other, mirroring the clashes in Darfur.
