2010-04-12 13:39 BJT

The Thai government has reiterated that security forces were only allowed to shoot in self defense, and that its forces didn't use live ammunition on protestors. The government said it will conduct an investigation into the incident.

Thai Government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said, "There were no live bullets shot at the protesters, as far as we have evidence. There is no injury caused from a single live bullet from the officers. "

Investigation into shootings underway

The army has retreated to military camps, as the government collects evidence to determine whether a third party instigated Saturday's violence. The red-shirts insisted soldiers used live ammunition, and will refer the case to international court.
