US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has met Afghan President Hamid Karzai in London, ahead of a key international conference on Afghanistan.

According to US Special Representative Richard Holbrooke, the US government will support a plan to reintegrate Taliban fighters, that's set to be announced by Karzai at the conference.

Holbrooke also said that US officials believed the majority of Taliban forces do not back al-Qaida or its extremist ideology.

Afghanistan aims to reduce the burden on its allies to provide security. But Karzai also cautioned that Afghan forces would need long-term international support.
