German Chancellor Angela Merkel outlined her government's strategy for Afghanistan to the German parliament on Wednesday.

She said supporting civil development and training Afghan security forces would go alongside with protecting Afghan civilians.

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, said, "It can't work without security, but only a political strategy can make Afghanistan permanently stable. Civil structure and development, military training and protection of the people, that goes hand in hand."
