The five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are set to sit down with Iran in Geneva for talks about Tehran's disputed nuclear program.

Iran says Thursday's talks will be a good opportunity to address the issue and has expressed its hopes for positive results.

It is widely believed that Iran's attitude is crucial for any breakthrough from the talks.

On Tuesday, 239 Iranian lawmakers signed a statement expressing support for negotiations in Geneva. But they stressed the talks must be based on proposals put forward by Iran itself. They also told world

powers not to repeat what they called "past mistakes." The comment suggested they could force the government to downgrade cooperation with the UN nuclear agency if such mistakes were perceived to happen.

Even President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said through his aide that the country hopes for successful talks, calling them a "golden and unique opportunity."

He expressed his belief the meeting would provide a new window of understanding and cooperation based on justice and peace for both sides.
