Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi, has revealed the location of the country's new uranium enrichment facility.

The site is about 100 kilometers south of the capital Tehran, along a road leading to the city of Qom.

The facility was built inside a mountain. Salehi says the facility is next to a military compound of the Revolutionary Guard, and is equipped with air defense systems.

He says this will ensure continuity of its nuclear activities in case of an attack. Salehi describes the Qom facility as a "contingency plant", that is smaller than Iran's other uranium enrichment plant in Nantaz.

Salehi says the site was chosen after a careful study by authorities. He says the facility will be open to inspections by the UN nuclear watchdog.
