US dismayed by Iran's nuclear plan

Earlier this week, Iran submitted a series of proposals to five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany.

A senior US official says one of Iran's new proposals fails to address the greatest concern, which is its nuclear program.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs criticized Tehran's proposal for failing to live up to international obligations.

The Obama administration has warned Iran could face harsher sanctions if it does not begin talks before the end of this month.

The US and its Western allies accuse Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons. Iran has long denied the accusation, stressing its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
