Special Report: Afghan presidential election |
A suicide car bomb blast on the outskirts of the Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday killed at least 7 people and wounded 50 others. This again highlights the security situation ahead of the country's elections.
The bomb went off on the road leading from Kabul to the city of Jalalabad, home to the largest US facility in the country.
Jawed Ahmad, Shopkeeper, said, "I was inside my shop and then it collapsed on me. There were a lot of dead bodies."
The strike comes just two days before a tense presidential election.
Zemarai Bashari, Afghan Interior Ministry Spokesman, said, "Unfortunately at around one o'clock today there was a car suicide attack and the target of the bomber was ISAF forces and this attack happened in the 9th precinct of Kabul exactly in the area called "Dispichari"."
Although not targets, most of the casualties were civilian bystanders.
Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the explosion.
