Eighty percent of the affected land and people are in Southwest China. So far, the central and local governments have put in 10 billion yuan or one and half billion US dollars towards drought relief.

The Ministry of Land and Resources is assembling more than 1,000 engineers and workers from across the country to help dig wells in the region. Water Resource departments in ten provinces and cities including Beijing and Tianjin are helping different provinces and cities in Southwest China in their fight against the draught.
