Special Report: SW China Battles Severe Drought |

Relief goods are gradually arriving in drought-stricken areas of Yunnan province. Pupils in San-po village have received enough bottled water to last for a month. And as Yuan Yifang explains, the helping hand has inspired a startling display of generosity.

Hundreds of boxes of bottled water, as well as two completely full water cellars...all 116 students in the school now have enough water for daily consumption.

"Do you know where this water comes from?"

"Yes, from uncles and aunts in Zhejiang province."

But as no substantial rain is forecast in the coming weeks, the relief water needs to be carefully distributed.

"One bottle a day for each pupil."

It is clearly not sufficient for a 10 year-old child. But despite this...

"Why have you saved so much water here?"

"I want to bring them to my parents."

"You also saved several bottles."

"1, 2, 3, 4..."

"When did you begin to receive this water?"

"From Sunday."

"So that's almost a week. How many bottles did you drink in the past 6 days?"

"One and a half bottles."

"Why do you keep so many bottles of water?"

"I'll bring them to my mum and dad."

"When did your home begin to suffer from water shortage?"

"We've been suffering for a long time."

"What's your biggest wish right now?"

"I hope the rain comes as soon as possible."

As the weekend is coming, most pupils will go back home. But this week, they will fill their bags with more than just books.
