Economist: Chinese economy to do better in 2010

2010-01-04 11:17 BJT

Major economies are still in the shadow of a financial crisis that is far from over. But China is bucking that trend. The chief economist at ratings agency, Standard & Poor's, has had glowing praise for the Chinese economy, which he expects to do even better in the year ahead.

David Wyss says China performed pretty well in 2009. The world's largest developing country has not experienced an economic recession despite the global financial crisis.

And Wyss is predicting even stronger economic growth in 2010. But he thinks growth rates in the United States may remain at about 2.5 percent.

Wyss also says China's financial policies have helped its economic development. He noted more diversification in investment channels, and urged more long-term investment to minimize risk.
