A Chinese expert says the resumption of diplomatic ties between China, and Sao Tome and Principe opens a new chapter of mutual cooperation and joint development.

Liu Guijin is a former Chinese Government Special Representative for African Affairs. He said China can help Sao Tome and Principe in infrastructure construction and supply it with funds, techniques and talents. He said Chinese enterprises can also benefit, as there are more business opportunities in Sao Tome and Principe.

Liu said China-Africa cooperation has also shown new trends after President Xi Jinping proposed ten major cooperation plans at the 2nd summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation last year.

"Now enterprises and companies are playing a leading role. There are more investment and joint businesses in terms of cooperation structure," said Liu.

"And as for the cooperation idea, we now emphasize more on market, investment and joint development instead of the assistance to African countries in the past."

"So the China-Africa cooperation is just like a magnet, not only attracting other countries, but also setting a good example of South-South cooperation in the international community."
