The Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council has said that the Chinese mainland's stance on adhering to the one-China principle and opposing "Taiwan independence" is unswerving.

The statement comes following Sao Tome and Principe's decision to cut ties with Taiwan. Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also praised the move taken by the African island nation.

"We welcome Sao Tome and Principe back onto the correct path of the One-China principle. As acknowledged by the United Nations' general assembly, the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole government that represents China. Adhering to the One-China principle is the direction of popular international sentiment and an irresistible trend," said spokesperson Hua Chunying.

Regarding Mongolian Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil's comments about the Dalai Lama's visit to the country, Hua Chunying said the Tibetan issue involves China's national sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests. China hopes Mongolia will keep its promise and not allow the Dalai Lama to visit Mongolia again.
