US president-elect Donald Trump's cabinet advisor, Stephen Yates, has met with Taiwan's officials recently.
Wu Li-Pei, who serves as an advisor in Taiwan, says Taiwan would not mind that the US sees Taiwan as a pawn in its chess game with China, as long as the US will offer Taiwan political or economic benefit.
The Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council has responded saying that "Taiwan is not ashamed of selling itself for personal gains, but proud."
"Any form of "Taiwan Independence" or "Hong Kong Independence" is against the people's will in Taiwan and Hong Kong. It is also against China's fundamental interest and is firmly opposed by all Chinese people," said An Fengshan, spokesman, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
