We start with the long lasting Israel-Palestine conflict, where the UN Security Council has passed a resolution demanding the immediate halt of all Israeli settlement activity within occupied Palestinian territory.
On Saturday, the Arab League welcomed the Security Council resolution, with the bloc's chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit saying in a statement that the resolution reflects international support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights.
He also expressed support for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The resolution was endorsed on Friday by 14 out of the council's 15 member states, with the United States abstaining. It comes after 35 years of attempts made by the UN to issue a similar resolution.
