This afternoon in Syria, the army has announced that the evacuation of rebels still in Aleppo will get underway soon.

The new agreement comes following intense negotiations after a ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey collapsed on Wednesday.

The army said preparations are ongoing to evacuate rebel fighters from eastern districts of Aleppo towards the town of Khan Tuman, southwest of the city. The evacuation plan includes rebels' families.

Russia's RIA news agency cited Moscow saying Syrian authorities have guaranteed the safety of rebels as they leave the city.
