South Korean analysts say there are three possibilities for the country's political future.

First would be the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, which would require support from two-thirds of parliament. A second possibility could be an orderly relinquishing of power by President Park. An interim prime minister and cabinet would be formed before Park resigns. But there could be a struggle over nominees. The third option would be to amend the constitution to shorten the president's term and avoid the impeachment. That proposal is widely opposed around the country.
