Philippine police have safely detonated a home-made bomb hidden in a trash bin near the US embassy in Manila. Authorities suspect a Muslim rebel group that has pledged allegiance to ISIL planted the device.

Maute rebels are currently locked in a military stand-off with the Philippine army in the country's south. The US embassy has not commented on the bomb, which was left about 200 meters from the American compound.
