At a regular press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang was asked about the interpretation of Article 104 of Hong Kong's Basic Law. He welcomed the interpretation and said it was in accordance with the constitution and the Basic Law.
"The interpretation will help to contain the "Hong Kong independence" forces, uphold the authority of China's national constitution and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, and safeguard national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. It will also help maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. The interpretation is totally in accordance with China's constitution and Hong Kong's Basic Law, and it accords with "One Country, two Systems" policy," Lu Kang said.
