Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang says China hopes that Germany's investigation of a merger deal between Fujian Grand Chip Investment Fund and Germany's chip equipment maker Aixtron isn't anything more than just a routine inquiry.
"We hope Germany's investigation is a single case and it does not indicate a policy change towards Chinese investors. We respect all countries to conduct security investigation under their legal frames. But we do hope they have clear and definite standards when conducting these investigations and make sure the process is transparent." said Sheng Danyang, Commerce Ministry Spokesperson.
The German government has withdrawn its approval for FGC's takeover bid of Aixtron citing security concerns. Germany will start an investigation into the 670-million-euro deal.
Shen says concerns by some German officials that China's acquisitions will take away technology and jobs are unwarranted. He urged Germany to create a fair business environment for investors.
In another case, the Australian government has called off its anti-dumping investigations of Chinese solar panel manufacturers. Shen says China opposes any trade protectionism and respects the commercial rules of open market and fair competition.
