The Chinese city of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province will build an internet of things town, the first of its kind in China. The development was announced during the ongoing World Internet of Things Expo. Let's learn more about what's trending in the field.

China's push on the Internet of Things is on display at the World's Internet of Things Expo. Connected cars and smart healthcare are trending now.

"These are now basics. In-car wifi, car detection, GPS and inter-car connectivity. We have over 10 million users of our in-car connectivity services." said He Fei, manager of China Unicom.

"We can control the vibe at home, on temperature, humidity, noise, toxic particles, gas and chemicals. We gather all the data through this little box and share the data with our mobile phones. By doing this, we connect our phones with all the home appliances." said Xiang Ligang, chairman of 720 Health.

China is the world's largest market for the internet of things. Its own production in the area reached 750 billion yuan in 2015, up 25 percent from a year ago.

But, the products are on the lower-end of the value chain.

"The core technology in key parts of our products are dependent on foreign technology. That means the IT industry is not strong enough in China. We need to consolidate the industry in order to move up the value chain. "said Huai Jinpeng,Vice Minister of Industry & IT.

That's why China wants to build Wuxi, a city in east China, into an Internet of Things. An entire IoT industrial chain will be developed in Hongshan, a township of about 60,000 people. The chain will include IoT research and development, production and innovative applications.
