in France where riot police have clashed with protesters outside the so-called "Jungle" camp in the northern city of Calais. Around 200 migrants and some 50 activists gathered to protest against living conditions in the camp. Earlier last week French President Francois Hollande vowed to close the camp by the end of the year.

The confrontation between police and protesters lasted some three hours, and was the worst clash since February when operations began to dismantle the southern part of the camp. The break out of violence at that time left five people injured. Between 7,000 and 10,000 migrants are estimated to be living in the migrant camp.
