Violent clashes have broken out between Afghan and Sudanese migrants at a makeshift refugee camp in Calais. French police said forty people were injured. Between 300 and 400 migrants began fighting in the afternoon near a food distribution point.
During the skirmish, makeshift huts were set on fire. Firefighters rapidly extinguished the blaze. A police enquiry is underway to determine the cause of the incident which at present is unknown. Official figures put the number of migrants in the camp at just under 4000 but aid organizations estimate that the actual number is much higher.
