Full coverage: 67th Chinese National Day

It is the first day of China's week-long National Day Holiday and the traffic volume has already peaked. The number of Chinese tourists and passengers traveling boomed in just one day.

Rail passenger flows reached its summit with an estimated 14 million travels on Day one. Tickets were sold out and train stations were packed with travelers. On the roads, cars moved slowly and traffic jams turned highways into parking lots. Pictures taken by drones will probably give Trypophobia patients goosebumps.

Traveler numbers are expected to ease now but another surge is predicted for the end of the holiday. 'Golden Week' is one of the busiest times for the country's tourism industry, and this year makes no exception. Six million Chinese travelers decided to make long-distance tours to other countries.

Meanwhile, domestic tourist locations will likely receive nearly 600 million visits. Just imagine, the entire amount of visits from China to New York City last year - times ten - and all happening in one week. So to all travelers out there, enjoy your holidays and be safe.
