China top the medal table at the conclusion of the Rio Paralympics. The PRC's largest team ever made a number of breakthroughs in the Games with swimming the best event for the country.

China claimed 37 gold medals in the pool alone. Huang Wenpan is the most successful Chinese athlete at these Games. He finished with five golds and one silver in Rio, followed by his compatriot Zhang Li who has four golds in total. Huang also broke four world records, even though he only started swimming in 2010.

Also in the pool, Xu Jialing was the youngest Chinese athlete in Rio. At the age of 14, Xu realized her dream of winning a Paralympic gold. The debutant, who lost her left arm in a car accident, was the winner in the women's 100-meter butterfly S9 category, breaking the Asian record.

"The disadvantage of my age is my shortage of experience, but I'm young and could fight back in the second half of most competitions. I hope I can make amends in the events that I didn't win this time," Xu said.

The second best event for China was track and field. The Asian nation finished with 32 gold medals in athletics, including two marathon golds on the final day.

They also claimed 13 golds in table tennis and nine in wheelchair fencing. China would end the Rio Paralympics with 107 gold medals and 239 in total, almost 100 medals more than its nearest rival, Great Britain, which held a comfortable second place.

China, are only the third country to win more than 100 golds at a single edition of the Paralympics after the United States and Great Britain.
