UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has confirmed a drop in violence in the 24 hours after the ceasefire deal came into effect.

He said, "Comparing, the bottom line, to previous days, there is no doubt a significant drop in violence."

"Of course, this is only 24 hours, the 48-hour benchmark is going to be important, because that is the one which will be assessed by the two co-chairs, regarding the level of health of the cessation of hostilities which they have agreed upon on Friday night."
