This year’s G20 summit has placed great emphasis on the development agenda, with developing countries, including the BRICS nations, having closely followed.
Russian national television ran a series report on the Hangzhou Summit, days before the meetings started. And on the opening day of the G20, state TV had rolling coverage on meetings between Russian and Chinese leaders. Russian English TV channel Russia Today also reported on the G20 Gala on Monday night.
Indian national TV had special coverage of the G20 summit, providing insight into this year’s main theme and discussion topics. The G20 also attracted a fair share of social media attention. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted the G20 family photo and a photo of the Chinese paintings he received as a gift on his social media account.
South Africa’s 24 hour news network focused on the BRICS informal meeting. It said BRICS leaders are confident that the G20 summit in Hangzhou can have fruitful outcomes.
Brazil’s largest newspaper also discussed the BRICS meeting at length. During a media interview, Brazil president Michel Temer said he had a successful meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding that he looks forward to the development of bilateral relations.
