To badminton as the marquee-match up would feature world number one, Malaysian Lee Chong Wei facing Lin Dan in the men's singles semi-final. These two had in the last two Olympic finals, with the Chinese prevailing. But the Malaysian was looking to put an end to Super Dan's reign.

The pair, regarded by many as the greatest players of all time, have dominated the sport in recent years, and split the first two frames.
Lin facing match point in the third extends the match, but Lee is able to get the winning point, and progress to his third straight Olympic final -- claiming a 15-21, 21-11, 22-20 win.
The pair then exchange shirts in a sign of respect.
Lee will now play China's Chen Long who beat Danish fourth seed Viktor Axelsen to make the final.
"As many have said, this might be the last time we meet at an Olympics, I think both of us performed at our best. It is too bad about the result, but anyway that is sports. Many fans cheered me up on WeChat before the match. They enjoyed the match," said Lin Dan.
"I didn't expect to win this match. I have never beaten Lin Dan before on such a big stage, which had me kind of worried going into the match. I think we should be both proud of ourselves, and how we competed on this court today. We are both 33-years-old, and have been to four Olympics. I think it an honor for both of us," said Lee Chong Wei.
Silver goes to China while Japan swim to bronze
In synchronised swimming, Russia win their fifth straight Olympic title, with a total score of 196.1439 points. China would finish with silver, while Japan, return to the podium for the first time since 2004, capturing bronze.

And history was made in women's golf, by China's Lin Xiyu. The 58th ranked player would step-up and fire away from 154 yards away on the par-three 8th hole, and was absolutely perfect, firing a hole-in-one. The first ever ace in the women's game at an Olympiad. That highlighted her tournament, because she is 18-shots off the pace being set by Inbee Park. The South Korean is sitting at minus-11 after three rounds. China's Feng Shanshan is three-shots behind the leader in fourth.
China's Yin Junhua settles for silver after losing split decision
And in boxing, French boxer Estelle Mossely would celebrate her 24th birthday by winning gold in the women's lightweight division. Mossely, the world champ, claims her first Olympic title by beating China's Yin Junhua by split decision. Yin's silver is the first medal by a Chinese boxer at these games.
