Full coverage: THAAD Deployment in South Korea

South Korea's Defense Minister Han Min-goo has admitted that the government did not provide an explanation in advance to Seongju residents about the deployment of the controversial THAAD anti-missile system.

That is Han's answer when locals asked him why the government chose the county as the site for the THAAD battery. Han also apologized to the locals during his visit in the county on Wednesday. The minister also said the government is open to suggestions, and will consider a different site, given that Seongju residents can agree on an alternative option.

But locals say they are preparing for more anti-THAAD protests. Early in July, Han and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn visited the county to allay the anger and fear of the residents, but failed to engage in dialogue with them.
