Full coverage: THAAD Deployment in South Korea
The US Missile Defence Agency has said South Korea's deployment of the advanced missile defense system, THAAD will only be used for the protection of the country. The agency's director, Vice Admiral James D. Syring, added it's only a security measure against its northern neighbor -- the Democratic People's Republic of Korea -- and not China.
Syring also reassured residents near the deployment site of their safety. However, nearly one thousand of those residents are not convinced, and are planning to shave their heads in a show of defiance next Monday. Members of three major political parties are also discussing a movement against the controversial missile system.
