The ruling against Russian athletes has drawn swift condemnation in Russia. People in the streets of Moscow said the decision was wrong, and spoke of political pressure.

"I believe it's nonsense. Many sportspeople have been waiting and training for these Games. And suddenly when someone has found some doping somewhere, they are all banned now without exception? The only thing I am confused about is why this only concerns our sportspeople, haven't other countries used doping as well? I only see political pressure in this case, no sports issues here," said Tamara Obivalkina, Moscow resident.

"That's really sad. We have prominent athletes and if it goes like that… I believe our sportspeople should perform well and our sportspeople and officials should somehow solve this problem because we should participate anyway and show that Russian athletes are among the best," said Arthur, Moscow resident.
