Following the horrific events in France on Thursday, Brazilian authorities have decided to review their security strategies ahead of the opening ceremony on August 5th. Brazilian defense Minister Faul Jungmann has reiterated there is no serious threat to the games and has sent a delegation to France to find out more information that could be relevant to their safety plans.

Mr Jungmann gave his reassurances during an air force ceremony on Friday which included 200 personnel sent to assist in operations during the event. 22,850 troops will be keeping a watchful eye in the city as well as being responsible for safety at Olympic venues and main tourist spots. A further 60,000 police officers have also been deployed making up a total of 85,000 security staff, twice the number at the London Olympics 4 years ago.

"Maybe due to the fact that they suffered a humanitarian tragedy, horrible, unacceptable. The French intelligence agencies still haven't sent us any information. So we are sending our people there to France to pick up more information regarding the attack. Secondly we want to revise with a fine-tooth comb go through all our security protocols. The machines that will do scanning, the barriers, where will they be? What routes? We will review all and every protocol and add more people together with intelligence. This is only the beginning of the process. In the following weeks we will announce more measures," said Raul Jungmann, Brazilian Defense Minister.
