China's State Oceanic Administration has issued this year's first red alert for ocean waves as the super Typhoon Nepartak approaches the Chinese mainland. Nepartak is moving towards east China's Fujian province. It has gradually weakened after making landfall in Taiwan island on Friday.
A typhoon alert issued on Friday by China's meteorological office is still in place on Saturday. The typhoon is due to reach the Chinese mainland at a time when most areas in the south of the country are still dealing with heavy rainfall and flooding. Authorities forecast that torrential rain brought by the typhoon will hit the provinces of Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi.
