Cities all along China's eastern coast are on high alert as typhoon Nepartak approaches. The powerful weather system is expected to make a landfall Saturday morning in East China's Fujian province. Officials have told residents to prepare for strong winds and downpours.

In Lianjiang county, boats have been docked and seven shipping routes have been temporarily shut down.  All tourist attractions have been closed in Taizhou city in Zhejiang province, and over one thousand visitors have been moved to safety.

The super typhoon is expected to raise water levels even further in Jiangsu province's flooded Taihu lake -- possibly to new record highs. Authorities have issued the second-highest emergency warning and released a joint statement urging residents  to purchase and store survival kits so they can wait out the storm. The Shanghai Railway Bureau said it has suspended 67 high-speed trains between Shanghai and cities in Fujian province as a security precaution.
