Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the People's Liberation Army and the armed police force to send more troops to support flood control and disaster relief in areas battered by rainstorms.
Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei province, to command relief and rescue operations.
The flood disaster in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, triggered by this recent round of heavy rainfall, has caused great losses.
More than 26 million people in 11 provinces are affected, with 140 deaths reported as of Wednesday. Another 41 people remain missing, and more than 1.6 million people have been relocated.
