At least 20 people have been killed in a rain-triggered landslide in a village in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
An estimated volume of 95 thousand cubic meters of earth and debris fell over parts of the Dafang county in the city of Bijie at around 5:30 AM on Friday. Authorities say a total of 30 people had been buried, but seven have been pulled out alive so far.
More than 800 soldiers and rescuers are working with excavators to search for the three remaining villagers trapped below the debris. Meanwhile, China's weather service has issued an orange weather alert against rainstorms. It warns people in An Hui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangxi of heavy rains in the next 24 hours. It advices them to prepare for any rain-triggered events such as floods and landslides.
