The communication mechanisms between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are currently in suspension. The spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, An Fengshan, said the reason is the failure of the island's current administration to recognize the 1992 Consensus on One China.
He said, "The Chinese mainland's stance and attitude have been consistent in promoting institutionalized communication and maintaining the peaceful development of cross-Strait ties on the basis of the 1992 Consensus."
"It's the Taiwan side that has changed the situation. Taiwan's current administration has yet to recognize the Consensus or its core connotation. That shakes the political foundation of mutual trust and led to the suspension of communication mechanisms between the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office and the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan, and those between the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and Straits Exchange Foundation. The Taiwan side should take all the responsibility."
