Hundreds of business leaders, policy makers and academics will descend upon the Chinese port city of Tianjin for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016, also known as Summer Davos, this Sunday to Tuesday.

Just one more day to go, and the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016 will raise the curtain. The pressure is on.

Despite a population of 14 million, Tianjin is not a world-famous city. But over the next couple of days, it will be a microcosm of what is happening in China and the world today.

In numbers, the meeting will count over 1,700 participants, representing 90 countries, gather over 900 business leaders, and stage more than 200 sessions.

On Monday, Premier Li Keqiang will address the opening ceremony, the 10th such event in China, which is alternatively held in Tianjin and northeastern port city of Dalian.

Swiss multinational Nestle Group, which counts 35 factories, more than 50,000 employees, and a 7 billion US dollar business portfolio in China, will be among the participants.

This year’s topic is "The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Its Transformational Impact." Latest innovations and technological breakthroughs will shape the debates.

China is moving up the manufacturing value chain, last year it was the largest consumer of industrial robots. But its industrial transformation and upgrade is still facing several roadblocks.

Last year, the Chinese government unveiled its "Made in China 2025" strategy to boost the competitiveness of its manufacturing sector and support companies that make high-tech equipment.

Participants will want to see how both Chinese and foreign businesses can better benefit from such new national strategies and the country's massive transition.

"And, like every year, the World Economic Forum will be about engaging the global multi stakeholder community for real action and impact," said CCTV reporter Martina Fuchs from Beijing.
