We are still two years away from the next World Cup, but it is never too early to prepare -- and new FIFA boss, Gianni Infantino travelled to Russia, home of the 2018 showpiece to help launch the Volunteer Programme for the 2018 edition of football's most prestigious tournament. The Swiss met with several Russian dignataries, including president Vladimir Putin. Infantino also took part in a football friendly with some of the newly appointed volunteers for the World Cup.
Infantino and former Spanish captain Carles Puyol were among the notables playing for the world cup staff team. Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko was also on the squad. The match would end up in a goalless draw.
Now before the time on the pitch, Putin and Infantino came together to announce that applications for volunteers Programme plans. Fifty-five hundred people will be needed for the 2017 Confederations Cup. And 15-thousand will take part for the 2018 World Cup.
