Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Wang said China is willing to work closely with Russia to ensure Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit will be a successful one. He called for joint intensified efforts in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt, and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Wang underlined the significant roles China and Russia play in international and regional issues, and vowed to further political solutions in various issues.
Lavrov said Russia has always put its relations with China as a priority. He said Russia welcomes the bilateral and multilateral deals reached with countries around the South China Sea, and supports political solutions to the disputes in the region.
Wang and Lavrov are currently in the country's capital Tashkent for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
