Iran’s parliament has passed a bill requiring the government to demand compensation from the United States. The payment is for ’material and moral damage‘ caused as a result of American policies over the last 60 years. The bill lists grievances such as US support for a 1953 military coup in Iran, the Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s and confiscation of Iranian funds abroad during international sanctions.
The bill comes after the US Supreme Court ruled in April that Iran must hand nearly US$2 billion of frozen assets to survivors and relatives of those killed in explosions in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, which the US says was done by Iran. Iran has rejected the judgement.
