Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will be suspended from office for up to 180 days to prepare for her impending impeachment trial. Brazil's Senate voted 55 to 22 in favor of putting the President on trial for breaking budget laws this morning-- after an overnight Senate session that lasted more than 20 hours.

The trial could end the term of Brazil's first woman president and 13 years of rule by Brazil's leftist Workers Party. Vice President Michel Temer will become acting president during the impeachment proceedings. Ms Rousseff denies the charges against her and submitted a last-ditch appeal to the Supreme Court to stop the impeachment proceedings earlier this week. But the court rejected her request.
