The impeachment process has divided opinions across the country.

Brazil stopped Wednesday to follow the crucial Senate's vote on whether to start an impeachment trial against President Dilma Rousseff.

In Rio de Janeiro's downtown area, people used their lunch time to watch a live broadcast of the session and it was all over the front pages.

"I am against the impeachment because it is not legitimate. You can't impeach anybody where everyone behind this process is more corrupt that the one that is in power," said Veronica Prates, local people.

"I favor the impeachment because if there are proofs of a bad administrative management, she must be removed to preserve our democracy," said Bruna Petit, local people.

"Even if am not in favor of the Workers' party and of Dilma's government, I don't think the impeachment will solve any of our troubles, because it will put a vice president in her place that was not elected by the people," said Douglas Luiz, local people.

In Sao Paulo and other major cities her supporters burnt tires and blocked major highways, anticipating the outcome-an end to the rule of Rousseff's Worker's Party after 13 years in power.

Rousseff is accused of breaking the nation's budget laws-a charge she vehemently denies.
