Brazil's Senate is scheduled to vote later today on a motion to open an impeachment trial against President Dilma Rousseff. If a simple majority agrees to put her on trial, Rousseff will be suspended from office this week.
On the eve of the vote, Rousseff vowed to serve out her full term. She said she is going to fight the impeachment with all her strength, using both legal means, and what she called a "struggle" in the streets.
The president is looking to the Supreme Court in a last-ditch attempt to stay in office. Attorney General Eduardo Cardozo, the government's top lawyer, asked the court on Tuesday to annul impeachment proceedings, arguing they were politically motivated and had no legal basis.
