The ruling party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea  has wrapped up its 7th Congress. The congress elected Kim Jong Un to the newly-created post of chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Up to now Kim has led the party as its First Secretary.

The congress also elected Choe Ryong Hae and Pak Pong Ju to the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the party's Central Committee. The Political Bureau added 19 new members and 9 alternate members. The four-day congress was the party's first in 36 years.
