Voting is underway in the Philippines to elect a new president. Five candidates are in the race.
More than half of the Southeast Asian country's population of 100 million people are registered to vote. A vice-president, senators and about 18,000 local officials, including mayors, will also be elected. A tough-talking city mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, has led in voter-preference surveys.
More than 100,000 police officers will be on duty, amid fears of violence. Police say seven people were shot dead and another was wounded when a convoy of vehicles was ambushed just hours before polls opened.
