Voting is underway in the Philippines to elect a new president. Five candidates are in the race.
More than half of the Southeast Asian country's population of 100 million people are registered to vote. A vice-president, senators and about 18,000 local officials, including mayors, will also be elected.
More than 100,000 police officers will be on duty, amid fears of violence. Police say seven people were shot dead and another was wounded when a convoy of vehicles was ambushed just hours before polls opened.
