The Maimi Heat travelled to face the Toronto Raptors for game one of the Eastern Conference semi-final series. The visitors entered the contest having come from 2 games down to overcome the Charlotte Hornets 4-3 and they would continue that momentum in Canada despite of some late drama from Kyle Lowry.
In the opening stages the homeside take an early advantage. This 3 pointer from Josh Richardson brings the Heat within 2 of their opponents as the first quarter ends all square at 18 all.
Going into the final period the visitors have a slender 2 point advantage and they look to be home and dry when Goran Dragic lands a maximum from the corner with 40 seconds on the clock. The big Serbian would finish with a game high 26 points.
But with 20 seconds left the Raptors are able to complete a 6 points comeback. First Terrance Ross finds the basket to bring his team within 3.
And then with the clock counting down to zero, Kyle Lowry shoots from just inside his own half and, as the Air Canada arena takes a giant breath, miraculously lands the 3 to take it into overtime.
Amazing stuff from the 30-year-old. He would only chip in with 7 points overall but this last ditch contribution would be the biggest of out of all his teammates.
Lowry forces O.T at the buzzer but Heat pull through
However, they fail to build on the momentum in the extra period. With 10 seconds on the clock and 3 behind, Dwayne Wade makes the steel on Demar DeRozen to charge to the basket and get the lay up.
Fantastic play from the long serving Miami man. He finishes with 24 points as his team take a one nil series lead.
In other playoff game, Klay Thompson top scored with 27 points as the Golden State Warriors took a 2 nil series lead with a 110-99 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors, without star man Stephon Curry, managed to overcome a 17 point deficit as they look to defend their title.
